The UK has officially been thrown into the second lockdown of the year. Unlike the first lockdown back in March, this one is only set to last for 4 weeks (hopefully) and there are a few rules that are more lenient than last time. If you're worried about the second lockdown and how you will cope in the next 4 weeks, please don't! This time around we're prepared - we've been through the worst and we know what to expect. Learn a language
Have you ever thought about learning a new language? Whether it's being fluent or just knowing a few phrases, it can be extremely helpful under certain circumstances! Now we know that you can't learn a whole language in 4 weeks, but you could still learn some! Pick any language you're interested in - you could even try your hand at sign language if you fancy something more inclusive - and get going! There are books, smartphone apps, online courses and even YouTube videos that can help you on your language journey. Put yourself to the test and see what you can achieve within the lockdown timeframe, you may even surprise yourself!
Learn to play an instrument
Have you ever dreamed of playing an instrument? Learning how to play an instrument is a fun way to keep busy during the second lockdown and it really isn't expensive if you do it right! Don't be put off by self-teaching as many successful musicians are self-taught; Jimi Hendrix, David Bowie and even Elton John were self-taught musicians! You can buy instruments like guitars, keyboards and drums for relatively cheap prices on second-hand sites like eBay or Depop, or if you wanted to spend the extra cash you could buy brand-new from a store. YouTube videos and books are great options for teaching yourself how to play and are lockdown friendly. The fun thing about learning an instrument is that you can incorporate your own music tastes into your learning by choosing songs you love and learning them!
Flex your creative writing skills
If you're more of a creative person or you just have a lot of thoughts and feelings, writing could be for you! It could be as simple as making a daily journal or private diary just to let loose your feelings during the lockdown. If you want to try something that's a bit more time-consuming, creating a blog, writing a novel, or jotting down some poetry are great expressive writing options. If you have a laptop lying around or even a pen and some paper, you're already halfway there! To make a blog, you can use platforms like WordPress and Squarespace for free. If you need some inspiration or help when it comes to writing, you can try a novel map or a writing prompt journal to get you going. Who knows, you might even get something published!
Get a head start on ChristmasIt's fair to say that 2020 has been a disaster of a year, so if you want to, put up your Christmas decorations and get into the Christmas spirit early - you deserve it! If you haven't already, you can start on your Christmas shopping. Although you can't go in-store to shop for presents you can still shop online easily, and some places have the option to get your present gift wrapped if you're not the best wrapper. Getting into the Christmas mood will be great for your mental health and is a great distraction from the second lockdown. If you've already wrapped your presents and decorated your house you could spend the next 4 weeks Christmas baking. So get those presents bought, wrap them to the gods, and play that Christmas playlist loud and proud!
